Multiple Cards

This is part of a restaurant receipt.

The dishes are listed using how many of each where bought instead of listing them separately.

You would not expect a receipt like the one below.

So it is with the game of maths.

The record for this game would be

Record

List
          7
          7
          7
          7
          6
          6
          6
          6
          6
          6
          58

Maths
7 + 7 + 7 + 7 + 6 + 6 + 6 + 6 + 6 = 58

It makes sense to group the same number objects together.

There are four Sevens and five Sixes.
In shorthand four Sevens is written 4 x 7 and five Sixes as 5 x 6.

The record becomes

Record
List
          4 x 7 = 28
          5 x 6 = 30
                      58

Maths
4 x 7   +   5 x 6 = 58

Time to introduce a new piece into the game, the holder which is used to hold cards of the same number together and shows how many cards are held.

When holders are used the following hand

becomes
